Alex Downey is a Brighton-based DJ, record-shop manager and radio presenter associated with the UK electronic underground, especially techno. He works in Brighton on the south coast of England and has supported the scene for nearly 15 years through DJing, shop work and broadcasting.

DJ work and scene involvement

Downey is a regular presence at high-profile techno events in Brighton and is described as one of the city’s main advocates for techno. Through his work at Brighton’s former record store and website [covert], he helps bring techno and house music to the city and beyond. That role builds on a large record collection, broad knowledge of the music and a long-standing focus on underground electronic sounds.

Performances and residencies

He appears at a range of events and club nights, including Free-rotation in Wales, The Big Beat Boutique and Stompa-phunk in Brighton, Retro_vert and Wiggle in London, Labyrinth festival and Haus-Tek in Tokyo.
