Early career and breakthrough

After being dropped by Columbia Records at 18, he builds an audience by performing in parking lots outside Shawn Mendes and Troye Sivan concerts. He later attracts the attention of Jon Bellion, receives a songwriting credit on Bellion’s debut album and joins him on tour.

Benjamin then uploads new songs to his YouTube channel regularly and gains wider attention through the song “I Built a Friend”, which leads to a deal with Atlantic Records.
