Ajam
Ajam is a London-based Iranian-British music band formed formally in early 2010 as an off-shoot from the Simorgh group. The main members have played music together since 2004. The band is based in London and releases music independently.
Style and influences
The group describes its music as Iranian Roots Music. Its sound draws on a range of everyday genres, but it is rooted in the native music of Iran. It also uses elements associated with tribal and ritual music, and incorporates dance and movement into live performance.
Performances and recordings
Ajam’s live sets vary from unplugged acoustic performances to club-oriented shows with a more electronic sound. Its recordings feature Iranian melodic instruments, layered live percussion, and both synthesised and live bass.
Members
The group includes Amin Ajami, Parham Ajami, Arash Fayyazi, Nari Man, Zartosht Safari and Shohreh Khatoon.
