Aim is the recording name of Andy Turner, a British DJ and producer born in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, in 1970. He works in electronic music, hip hop and trip hop, and his sound combines funk-influenced electronic production with hip hop rhythms.

Turner grows up in a musical environment: his father is a jazz drummer and runs an instrument shop, and Turner later owns a music shop himself. He begins developing his DJ skills there, which leads into his recording career. He is discovered by Mark Rae and signs to Grand Central Records, a label associated with the style heard in his early work.

Releases

Aim releases three studio albums: Cold Water Music, Hinterland and Flight 602. He also issues Means of Production, a compilation of early singles, along with two DJ mix albums, Stars on 33 and Fabric Live 17.

Collaborations and remixes

Much of his music is instrumental, but his records also include guest vocal contributions from Stephen Jones of Babybird, Diamond D, Souls of Mischief, QNC and Kate Rogers. As a remixer, he works on tracks by Ian Brown, Saint Etienne, The Charlatans, Lil' Kim, Thunderbugs, Archive, Down to the Bone, Texas and Rae & Christian. In 2004, he produces Life On Earth, the debut album by Niko, a former Grand Central artist.

ATIC Records

Turner leaves Grand Central Records in early 2005 and founds his own label, ATIC Records, in June 2005. Flight 602 is the first album issued on the label, and Niko also signs to ATIC.
