Aidan

Aidan is the stage name of Aidan Cassar, a singer-songwriter from Żejtun, Malta, and a separate Italian project also described as Italian drone, sludge and post-metal. The Maltese artist emerges in 2015 and becomes a prominent figure in Maltese popular music, while the other act is identified as being based in Italy.

Maltese singer-songwriter

As a Maltese performer, Aidan builds a profile as a songwriter and recording artist with a string of charting releases. He appears on Maltese television programmes including X Factor, Mużika Mużika and the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, with entries in 2018, 2022, 2025 and a winning song in 2026. He wins the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with “Bella”, which leads to representation of Malta at Eurovision in Vienna.

His breakthrough comes with “Naħseb Fik” in 2021. Subsequent singles include “Ritmu” in 2022 and “Reġina” in 2023. These releases are described as strong chart performers in Malta and as reaching large streaming numbers. His debut album, This is Aidan, appears in 2023 and features the track “Pupa”, which is noted for reaching the top of the Maltese charts.

Aidan also works as a songwriter for other Maltese artists and collaborates with Ira Losco and Carlo Gerada. His work is described as having a Maltese and international audience.

Travelling songwriter

A separate artist using the name Aidan is a singer-songwriter who is born and raised in Dublin and later lives in Bruxelles. He travels and performs across nine countries, combining music with a range of jobs including farming, scuba-diving and sound engineering. During these travels he meets and performs with Bobby McFerrin, Damien Rice, Conor O'Brien of Villagers and Antoine Wielemans of Girls In Hawaii.

This artist records and tours with Wallis Bird and the Italian Weather Ladies. He also releases the live album Live and Sans Souci with the Italian Weather Ladies, and is selected by Music Network to represent Ireland at the 2008 Biennale in Italy with his earlier project, Lord Altmont. Another album, Le Grand Discours, is described as a collection of eleven performances with guest appearances from musicians he meets along the way, and it is associated with Hazelwood Vinyl Plastics and Rough Trade.

Other project

The name Aidan is also used by a Dutch folk musician, Eindhoven-based singer-songwriter Diederik van den Brandt, who performs both solo and with a band under that moniker. His first album is still unreleased in the spring of 2016.
