Aias

Aias are a group from Barcelona, Spain, active since 2009. The trio consists of Gaia, Laia and Miriam. Gaia sings and plays guitar, Laia sings and plays drums, and Miriam sings and plays bass. The three work together on songs intended for other people to sing, using a sound described as pop with distortion, with vocal harmonies and repeated vocal sounds, performed in Catalan.

Background

The group begins as a birthday party band and then continues as a proper project. Its development is linked to a desire to push against the instrument itself and to make loud, vocal-driven music. A Vivian Girls concert at Primavera Sound and the involvement of Cristian Pallejà, who is associated with Nisei and Sedaiós, lead to a homemade recording made in a village in Catalonia.

That recording results in a winter signing with Captured Tracks, the New York label.
