Agincourt

Agincourt is a British group from East Sussex, United Kingdom, associated with British folk rock, folk rock, progressive folk and psychedelic folk. The name has also been used by a later heavy metal band from the Midlands, England, formed in 1991, but Agincourt is also known as a 60s/70s UK psychedelic folk group.

Early 1970s folk-rock trio

The early Agincourt line-up is a trio made up of John Ferdinando, Peter Howell and Lee Menelaus. In 1970, the group issues a rare privately pressed LP, Fly Away. The record is described as folk-rock with a strong melodic and atmospheric quality, and the songwriting of Howell and Ferdinando is noted for combining a haunting mood with greater pop awareness than is usual in the style. Menelaus provides the female vocals, helping the group mix male and female lead and backing parts smoothly.

Later heavy metal band

The Agincourt name is also used by a heavy metal band formed in 1991, based in the Midlands and strongly influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. That band records two self-released EPs, makes a BBC Radio 1 session at Maida Vale Studios, and gains radio play and television exposure while performing at major venues. It splits in 1997, later reforms with a revised line-up, and begins work on the album Angels of Mons, which is completed in 2010 and released in 2011.
