Afrik Bawantu
Afrik Bawantu is a 10-piece orchestra formed in 2007 by Ghanaian vocalist and djembe drummer Afla Sackey. The group develops Sackey’s idea of combining traditional Ghanaian music with Afrobeat and a funk-influenced approach.
Their sound features African rhythms, fast horn arrangements and prominent bass lines, and is described as a blend of afro-funk and Afrobeat. The band releases an EP titled Noko Hewon, which appears in 2013 and receives critical acclaim. Afrik Bawantu also appears in the World Music Network’s April charts.
