Africa Hitech

Africa Hitech is an electronic music group made up of Mark Pritchard and Steve White. The project begins after the two producers first work together at the Red Bull Music Academy in 2007. Its recordings sit within dubstep and related styles, drawing on dub, grime and funky, as well as a wider range of electronic music including soul, acid, UK garage, techno, house and Jamaican dancehall.

Releases

The group releases two EPs on Warp: Blen and Hitecherous. It then releases its debut album, 93 Million Miles. Most of the album consists of previously unreleased material, with Out in the Streets the exception. The project’s tracks are described through their use of synthesizers, syncopated percussion and heavy bass.

Members and background

Mark Pritchard is also known for his work as Harmonic 313 and for being part of the 1990s ambient duo Global Communication. Steve White, referred to in the project’s history as Steve Spacek, first gains attention with the R&B group Spacek and later works solo and with Space Invadas. He is also the brother of drum and bass artist D-Bridge.
