Adriatique

Adriatique are a Zurich-based electronic music duo formed by Adrian and Adrian, two producers who meet in 2008 after working as solo artists. The pair begin making music together in 2009 and remain active as a group. Their sound draws on house, deep house, electronica, melodic techno, minimal techno and progressive house, and they also tag their work with tech house and melodic house.

Background

Both members grow up in Zurich and start out experimenting with several instruments and with scratching on a grandfather’s turntable. They are born in the mid-1980s, during the period when techno and house are gaining prominence. One member is shaped by 1990s dance, hip-hop and house, while the other is influenced more by melodic sounds and European techno.

Releases and labels

The duo’s first release appears on OFF Recordings and receives strong responses from artists including Toni Rios, Reboot, Ray Okpara and Brother’s Vibe. They also appear on 2DIY4, the Diynamic sublabel, with a release that leads to work on Diynamic Music itself. Their reinterpretation of Feist’s Honey, Honey becomes one of the summer tracks of 2011 and is supported by Osunlade, Soulclap, James Teej, Dop, Anja Schneider, DJ Wild, Deetron, Adam Port and Maya Jane Coles. They are also associated with Siamese and X Recordings.

Events and performance

Alongside club dates and production work, Adriatique run a monthly event series in Zurich called Moving Around Us. The project develops into a meeting point for international guests, local talent, music and art. Their approach to DJing and performance centres on mixing styles to create varied and intense sets.

Musical identity

The duo describe themselves as brothers and place emphasis on direct contact with audiences. Their work is associated with club-oriented electronic music that combines melodic and rhythmic elements, with a focus on atmosphere, variety and sustained dancefloor energy.
