Adrian Crowley

Adrian Crowley is an Irish folk singer-songwriter from Sliema, Ireland, born in 1968. He is based in Dublin and has released work that draws on the 1970s folk tradition, with an emphasis on lyrics and storytelling.

Early releases

Crowley releases his first album, A Strange Kind, in 1999. His songs are described in relation to writers such as Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake, and Crowley himself compares his music to a “heartbroken steam engine” set to music by Cohen.

Collaborations and later albums

In 2007 Crowley works with bassist and producer Stephen Shannon on Long Distance Swimmer, an album that receives a nomination for the Choice Music Prize in 2008. He follows it with Season of the Sparks, recorded around the same period and released in 2009. In May 2009 he also collaborates with James Yorkston on The Invaders Salute Captain America, a tribute to the U.S. songwriter Daniel Johnston.
