Adia Victoria

Adia Victoria is an American singer-songwriter from Spartanburg and Nashville, based in Nashville. Born in 1986, she also writes poetry. Her music is often described as gothic country, and it sits across blues, country, rock and blues rock.

Career

Victoria first performs with a band backed by Ruby Rogers, Tiffany Minton and Mason Hickman. She later begins working with a different group, and they debut together in January 2016. Her first single is Stuck In the South, a slow-burning song with a swampy, mysterious feel. Her live performances are described as angry, furious and feral, and her stage presence as commanding.

Albums and collaborators

Her full-length debut is Beyond the Bloodhounds, produced by Roger Moutenot. The album title refers to Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs, and its theme centres on dealing with her life in her twenties. Moutenot also produces her first single and has previously worked with Yo La Tengo. Victoria releases music on her own label, Canvasback.

Alongside her music and poetry, Victoria is the subject of comparisons that place her work alongside artists such as PJ Harvey and Loretta Lynn.
