Ace Ventura
Ace Ventura is the progressive psytrance project of Yoni Oshrat, an Israeli artist based between Israel and Switzerland. Oshrat comes from a musical family and previously works in television and film as a sound producer before discovering trance in the early 1990s.
Early work
Before Ace Ventura, Oshrat DJs for several years and teams up with his friend DJ Goblin on the project Children of the Doc, which later becomes Psysex. Under that name, the pair release three full-length albums on HOM-Mega Productions and help establish Israel as a major centre for trance music. After years of touring, Oshrat leaves Psysex in 2006.
Other projects
Alongside Ace Ventura, Oshrat starts Schatsi, an electro project that appears on releases from Hadshot and Mylo’s Breastfed Recordings and receives support from Jhon Digweed.
Ace Ventura releases and style
Ace Ventura develops as a solo project focused on deep, tribal and driving progressive psytrance. The project tours internationally and appears on releases from Flow, Domo, Echoes, Blue Tunes, Spintwist, HOM-Mega Productions and Iboga Records. It is also remixed by artists including Zen Mechanics, Perfect Stranger, Aerospace, Sensient, Khainz, Peter Gun and Gaudium.
The debut Ace Ventura album, Rebirth, is released on Iboga Records and includes collaborations with Liquid Soul, Intelabeam and Lish. A remix album, Re:boot, later follows on the same label and features remixes by Perfect Stranger, Zen Mechanics, Liquid Soul and Bluetech.
Compilation work and recognition
Oshrat compiles New Order, the first progressive compilation on HOM-Mega Productions, presenting artists from the progressive scene. Work also begins on a sequel, New Order 2, for the same label. Ace Ventura wins the Best Psy-Trance Artist award in the first Beatport Music Awards, as voted by users of the service.
