Accursed Years is a folky melodic death/black metal band from Dorset, England. The group forms in 2013, founded by Agnieszka “Annie” Bryniarska and Joseph “Joms” Peers. Jon Evans joins in 2014, followed in 2015 by Rob Innell, Dan Reynolds and Søren Willatzen.

Style and influences

The band plays a bleak, atmospheric style of metal that also aims for a forceful, energetic feel. Its sound draws on European folk, black metal and melodic death metal, as well as darker strands of metal associated with its native England.

Name

Accursed Years takes its name from the two thousand years of Sauron’s first rule over J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth in the late Second Age. The phrase also carries wider associations for the band, including the Norman occupation of England as seen from an Anglo-Saxon perspective and bleak periods of depression in life.
