Gabrielle Olivia Mirville

Gabrielle Olivia Mirville, known professionally as Abra, is an American singer and songwriter. She is born in Queens, New York and spends her first eight years in London, where her missionary family builds the church they later work in. Her father is pastor and her mother oversees praise and worship, and that church gives her her first experience of singing.

After London, she settles with her family in Lilburn, a suburb outside Atlanta. She starts playing guitar at 14, attends Parkview High School, and is active in the drama department, graduating in 2007. In her teens she uploads acoustic covers of rap songs to YouTube, which leads to her being discovered by Father, the founder of Awful Records, who encourages her to make original music.

Abra joins Awful Records in 2014. Her first EP, BLQ Velvet, appears in 2015. Her second EP, Princess, is released by True Panther Sounds and is her first release on a major label. She is signed to Polo Grounds Music and RCA Records, and was formerly signed to Awful Records.

Her song “Fruit”, from the album Rose, is featured in a Guardian article on the best R&B songs of 2016. Vogue notes her clothing style in relation to her artistic identity and to her position within the Awful Records collective, which is described as a mostly male-dominated group with a sound distinct from Atlanta rap. Abra also appears in the 2018 film Assassination Nation, playing Em.

Raymond Mikael Camino Abracosa, also known as Abra, is a Filipino rapper, hip hop recording artist and occasional actor. He gains mainstream popularity with the song “Gayuma”. Its music video passes 26 million views on YouTube and is recognised as the highest-viewed local artist video at the time. Before his wider rise in music, he is already known as a battle emcee in the FlipTop Battle League.
