The group is associated with black metal, deathcore, melodic black metal, melodic death metal, metal and symphonic black metal, and is linked to Candlelight Records. It has also been based in Olympia, Washington.

History

The band has a changing line-up history, with near-constant personnel turnover. It briefly disbands in 2007 before reforming to work on its debut full-length album. Abigail Williams begins with a symphonic black metal sound. On its second full-length album, In the Absence of Light (2010), the band moves toward a more purist black metal style, a direction it continues on its third full-length album, Becoming (2012).
