A Filetta
A Filetta is a Corsican vocal group formed in 1978. The group is known for polyphonic singing rooted in the songs and landscape of Corsica, and it remains active with Jean-Claude Acquaviva, Jean-Luc Geronimi, Paul Giansily, Jean-Marc Pellegri, Jean Sicurani and Maxime Vuillamier as members.
Music and style
The group develops Corsican vocal harmony with a focus on sacred and secular polyphony. Its performances are associated with strong emotional intensity and vocal precision. A Filetta also presents concert programmes such as Intantu, which features six voices, sacred and secular polyphonies, and extracts from film music by Bruno Coulais; Passione, a six-voice programme of sacred polyphonies for Holy Week; and Si Di Mè, which combines six voices with musicians in a songs programme.
Film work and collaborations
A Filetta works repeatedly with the film composer Bruno Coulais. Their collaborations begin with Don Juan and continue with the score for Himalaya, which wins a Disque d'or and a César for best film score in 2000. The group also performs music for Akhénaton’s Comme un aimant and Jacques Perrin’s Le Peuple Migrateur.
Recordings and recognition
In 2003, A Filetta releases the album Si Di Mè on Virgin. The album receives the Diapason d’or, Choc de la musique and Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros, and it is selected for the Django d’Or in 2003.
