6 Day Riot

6 Day Riot is a British alternative pop group from the United Kingdom. The band is active from 2004 and is based in London. It features Tamara Schlesinger, who provides vocals and also plays ukulele and guitar.

Line-up and sound

The group includes Daniel Deavin on drums, Gabriel Lucena on guitar, Edd Harwood on upright bass, and Rachel Coleshill on violin and accordion. Its music draws on folk and pop, with an eclectic sound that combines ukuleles, guitars, trumpet, violin and accordions with Eastern European folk rhythms, soca patterns, distorted guitars and pop melodies.

Releases and activity

6 Day Riot releases material on its own label, Tantrum Records, and is also associated with Hubris Records. The band performs live at major festivals and tours in the UK. It has appeared at North by Northeast, where it introduced the EP Bring On The Waves, which includes songs written for the festival and the single “Go! Canada”. The group also releases the album 6 Day Riot Have A Plan, which features the single “Run For Your Life”.

Recognition

The band is named by Pete Paphides as one of the top 10 “pop picks of 2009” in The Times, and one of its singles receives radio play on Radio 2, 6 Music, XFM and Radio 1.
