4D is one of several acts to record under this name, including the alias used by American techno producer Woody McBride. Under this name, McBride is associated with early American acid techno and is also the founder of Communique Pool.

Other artists using the name include a Bratislava hip-hop group formed from 2Dé, with members Mišo Biely, G-Bod, Čistychov and Dena (Názov Stavby); a techno project started in 1997 by James Monro and Grant Collins, focused on underground techno and minimal techno; a UK drum and bass producer who begins producing in 2002 and later works with Coldfreeks and Rafale records; and an early 1980s German synth/NDW group linked to Franz Aumüller, Dieter Kolb, Ralf Titze and Jean-Claude Hamilius.
