422 win the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in 1999. They release three albums on Fellside Records and are associated with a further album, Go Forth. After a period focused mainly on music for dancing, they return to concert performance as well.

The group plays at festivals including Whitby Folk Festival, where they include a CD launch concert, and Shrewsbury Folk Festival.
