12 Stone Toddler
12 Stone Toddler are a Brighton-based rock group whose sound combines progressive rock, psychedelic rock, Pattoncore and other forms of guitar-led music. The band draws on a broad range of influences, mixing loud guitars, stomping rhythms and electric hooks with a deliberately genre-crossing approach.
Line-up
The group centres on Chris Otero on vocals and bass and Ben Jones on keyboards. Pat Garvey plays drums and Randall Breneman plays guitar.
Releases and activity
The band’s debut album is Does It Scare You. A second album follows, with Scheming named as the album that includes the single “Under the Weather”. The band releases music on Amazon Records.
Live profile
12 Stone Toddler build a live reputation in Brighton and play a range of UK festivals, including Glastonbury, Beautiful Days, Larmer Tree, Winterwell and Fire Gathering. They also perform sold-out shows at Brighton venues including the Komedia and Concorde 2, and at London’s ICA.
Broadcasts and media
The group appears in live radio sessions with Mark Lamarr and Tom Robinson, receives regular plays on Radio 2 and Radio 6, and has videos shown internationally on MTV.
Style and reception
The band’s songs are described through contrasts: harmony and noise, eclecticism and pop structure, with lyrics and arrangements that evoke elements of 20th-century rock, psychedelic soul and electro-punk. Their work is presented as unclassifiable rock and roll that resists neat categories.
