LOVEBOX & Red Bull Music Academy 2013

Festival Crowd Header

Lovebox and Red Bull Music Academy join forces to present a sensational musical journey charting the lineage of the electronic dance music of today back to the sounds of 1970’s New York City Disco at The Forum on Friday 14th June.

Lovebox and Red Bull Music Academy teamed up last Thursday to present a riotous bash at the Red Bull Studios London, featuring Jazzie B, Tom Middleton and PBR Street Gang on the decks and getting the party started in fine style.

Now, Lovebox and Red Bull Music Academy are upping the ante with an event headlined by Chic featuring Nile Rodgers who are widely credited with pioneering the R&B and disco scene in the 70’s and responsible for some immortal classics from the era, including “Le Freak”, “Dance Dance Dance”, “I Want Your Love” and “Good Times” with Rodgers also producing albums for artists such as Madonna, David Bowie, Sister Sledge and Diana Ross.

Still selling out arenas worldwide, front man Nile Rodgers returns to London hot on the heels of his Classic Album Sundays x Red Bull Music Academy appearance in New York.   The party doesn’t stop there however, with Rodgers curating a roll call of top drawer DJ talent to make sure the celebrations continue until the early hours.  There will be sets from DJ Pierre, Derrick Carter, Seth Troxler (Disco Set), Derrick May, Horsemeat Disco, and RBMA Alumni Rebel Rebel.

DJ Pierre, one of the originators of the Acid House movement, will usher forth the sounds of underground Chicago during the mid 1980’s Acid House explosion, while Derrick Carter will no doubt deliver a rare disco set before Prince of the new school and fourth wave Detroit star Seth Troxler (Disco Set) completes the journey from vintage vogue to contemporary cool.  Also perk your ears up for support act Nicky Siano, past resident at the legendary Studio 54 and renowned pioneer of the New York disco scene.

There’s no better way to warm up for Lovebox Festival, set to be one of the hottest events of the summer.

RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY AT LOVEBOX 2013

After a Friday takeover in 2012, the world-travelling Red Bull Music Academy returns to Lovebox for all three days.  Coming hot on the heels of five weeks in New York, the host city for this year's series of workshops and lectures, the line-up will feature two of the initiative's recent grads. Friday sees ambassador of dub and radio legend David "Ram Jam" Rodigan top the bill.  Joined by NY-based Jamaican hitmaker Dre Skull and Sheffield's first son of dancehall Toddla T, expect a taste of reggae riddims through the ages, from original dubs to future forward booty shakers.  Magnetic Man's Artwork, dub sound-system Iration Steppas and,hot sound-clashers Venum Sound and RBMA Alumni Rudi Zygadlo complete Friday's line-up.

Saturday sees two of the Big Apple's biggest party DJs - Mark Ronson and A Trak headline the RBMA stage, bringing good time hip hop, festival funk and summertime jams. Ensuring the party never ends will be one half of Masters at Work, Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, Kon & Amir, Seb Chew and Greenmoney.

On Sunday, it’s time to disco at the Red Bull Music Academy Stage with a roster of some of the sound's most revered protaganists. After bringing him back for his first UK gig in 10 years last November, Red Bull Music Academy once again hosts the inimitable DJ Harvey with his sarcastic disco.  They are joined by odd ball London house duo Idjut Boys, Rub n Tug's Eric Duncan, Norway's Prins Thomas and Japan's house leading lights Force of Nature, providing as global a perspective on the genre as you're likely to find anywhere.
