Tiffany

Tiffany Renee Darwish is an American pop singer from Norwalk, California, born in 1971. She is best known as a US 1980s pop star, associated with dance pop, pop rock, electronic and Christmas music.

Career

She makes her debut in the late 1980s with a self-titled album that becomes a major commercial success. The album includes two consecutive number one singles, "I Think We’re Alone Now" and "Could’ve Been", and sells about four million copies. At 16, she becomes the youngest female artist with a number one album in Billboard history.

Her second album, Hold an Old Friend’s Hand, follows in 1988 and produces two Top 40 singles: "All This Time" and "Radio Romance". In 1989 she records the voice of Judy Jetson for The Jetsons Movie, and three songs from her are used on the soundtrack. The film is released in 1990.

Her third album, New Inside, appears in 1990 and moves away from the bubblegum pop style of her earlier work toward a more funk and hip-hop-influenced sound. Its singles "New Inside", "Here In My Heart" and "Back In The Groove" do not chart, though "Here In My Heart" receives airplay on adult contemporary radio and is presented as a song for troops serving in Desert Storm.

In 1993 she releases Dreams Never Die in Asia only. The singles "If Love Is Blind" and "Can’t You See" perform well in that market, and there are plans for a US release that do not go ahead.

She returns in 2000 with The Color of Silence, which is described as a critical success and is named by Billboard as one of the best pop albums of the year and the year’s biggest surprise. In 2005 she releases Dust Off and Dance independently through CDBaby, later made available for download on iTunes. The album is dedicated to her husband and framed as a thank-you to fans, particularly gay and European listeners, and it features Eurodance and Hi-NRG material. Singles from the album include "Ride It", "Fly", "Be With U Tonite", "Na Na Na" and "Artificial Girlfriend", which chart on listener-sponsored online radio stations.

Later releases and recognition

Tiffany tours the Dust Off and Dance material and receives six JPF award nominations in 2006, winning best dance song of the year for "Be With U Tonite" and best dance CD of the year. She signs with 10 Spot Records, a division of Water Music Records Group distributed by Universal Music Group, and releases Just Me in 2007. "Feels Like Love" is issued as a single and filmed as a video. The dance single "Higher", which is not included on an album, appears on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in 2007, her first Billboard chart appearance since 1989.

She also records the track "Dust Off And Dance" for Hydra Productions, which appears on their album Liquid, and later releases the dance song "Just Another Day" through perfectbeat, remixed by Dave Audé.
