Sven Atterton, also known as AT3, is a musician and bass guitarist based in Essex, United Kingdom. He works as a music producer and makes modern funk with heavy electronic influences. He also performs original music under his full name and plays bass for PigBag.

Background

Atterton starts playing music as a teenager, first on drums before switching to bass in a high school trio during weekly after-school rehearsals. He finds the electric bass a better fit and soon concentrates on learning the instrument, practising daily, learning songs by ear and writing grooves on an 8-track Fostex recorder. After studying art and media at local college, he pursues music more seriously and enrols at Colchester Institute in 2002, where he studies music theory, production and performance for two years.

Education and training

In 2004 he goes on to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where he studies for four years and graduates with a diploma in performance electric bass. While there, he studies with Marty Walsh and receives private tuition from bass faculty including Anthony Vitti and Lenny Stallworth. He also meets musicians including Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Francis Rocco Prestia and Chick Corea.

Current work

He remains based in Essex and continues to appear both under his own name and as part of The Jungle Sessions. His work sits in funk, soul, electronic and instrumental territory, with the electronic element especially prominent in his modern funk output.
