Obliteration

Obliteration is a Norwegian death metal band from Kolbotn, formed in 2001. The group goes through a number of line-up changes in its early years and also experiments with punk-style material and two bass players before settling on death metal as its main direction. The band remains active and its current members are Sindre Solem and Arild Myren Torp.

Early releases and live profile

The band issues a demo in 2004 and gains a strong reaction from the Norwegian underground metal scene. That response leads to a set at the Inferno festival in 2005, followed by the 7-inch EP Total Fucking Obliteration on Duplicate Records/SoU. More live dates follow with bands including Aura Noir, Old and Dismember.

Debut album and later recordings

After appearing at the Hole in the Sky festival in 2006, where they share the bill with acts including Morbid Angel, Atheist and Celtic Frost, Obliteration records rehearsal demos that bring them a first record deal. Nocturno Culto of Darkthrone signs the band to Tyrant Syndicate, a sub-label of Peaceville Records. In January 2007 they record their debut album Perpetual Decay at Subsonic Society Studio with Lars Klokkerhaug, who has also recorded and produced Enslaved and Darkthrone.

Obliteration continues with Nekropsalms in 2009 on Fysisk Format, a Norwegian underground label. The release receives strong reviews and is followed by touring across Norway. The band is known for death metal rooted in the old-school and brutal styles.
