Newrising
Newrising is a UK group active since 2008. The trio works across blues, folk and soul, and is also associated with alternative, acoustic and roots music. Its sound combines three-part vocal harmonies with acoustic instrumentation, roots influences and elements of funk, blues and gritty urban music.
Style and sound
The band’s songs use direct, no-nonsense writing and focus on grooves, rich vocals and collective energy. Their music is described as blending timeless rhythms with a soulful emphasis on self-belief and unity, while also drawing on folk storytelling, Afro-bass bounce, blues-inflected tension and strong hook writing. The group presents itself as more than a conventional singer-songwriter act on the acoustic circuit.
Career
Newrising begins to build a live reputation through appearances at major UK festivals and venues. Festival bookings include Secret Garden Party and Bestival, and the group also plays a headline slot at Guilfest in its home area, where it shares a bill with 10CC. Other venues linked with the band include The Bedford, The Halfmoon and Wedgewood Rooms, alongside shows with artists such as Los Albertos, Martin Harley, Ed Sheeran, Mungo Jerry and Gino Washington.
The band appears on BBC Radio 6 Music through Tom Robinson in 2010 and also performs a live session for BBC Southern Counties. It is also featured in video sessions on Balcony TV and the Cordless Show.

Newrising’s debut album is Awake from Slumber, which receives a four-star review in Rock n Reel.
