Morrigan

Morrigan is a German black metal group from Großbettlingen, active since 2000. It forms around Beliar, who plays guitar and vocals, and Balor, who plays drums. Both are former members of Mayhemic Truth, in which they perform together from 1992 to 1997 before that band splits up. Morrigan begins in 2000 and works in black metal with viking and Celtic elements.

Releases and label activity

The group’s first full-length album, Plague, Waste And Death, appears in 2001 on Barbarian Wrath. In 2002 it releases Enter The Sea Of Flames on the same label. A limited vinyl edition of Plague, Waste And Death also appears in 2002 on Miriquidi Productions. In 2003 Morrigan breaks with Barbarian Wrath and starts its own label, Horns of Cernunos Productions, which later releases Celts. The band continues to issue records through this label and later releases Headcult on Undercover Records in 2005 and Welcome To Samhain on Undercover Records in 2006.

Line-up changes

Baldur joins as a second guitarist in late 2002 while the band works on its third full-length. He leaves in September 2003, before Celts is issued.

Live appearances and split release

In 2001 Morrigan headlines the Under the Black Sun festival and also performs at Drakkar Hellfest. In 2004 it releases a split recording with the Greek black metal band Nocternity, titled A Celtic / Hellenic Alliance.
