Lovely Laura, also known as Laura Fowles, is a saxophonist and vocalist from the United Kingdom. She develops an early interest in music through piano playing with her grandfather and singing along with Ella Fitzgerald recordings in her family home. She first learns piano, then clarinet at middle school, and later moves to saxophone.

She studies art before deciding to pursue music more seriously. She goes on to complete a jazz degree at Leeds College of Music, where she receives the Spud Murphy trophy for saxophone. While studying, she also develops her singing.

Career

Lovely Laura builds a career across jazz and club music, performing as both saxophonist and vocalist. She gains wider attention after winning ITV Yorkshire’s Calendar’s Got Talent in 2007. That same period leads to support slots with Take That and Sophie Ellis-Bextor on the Beautiful World tour, and with The Stylistics during their UK visit, where she performs original material.

She becomes associated with the club circuit and is requested by DJs and producers for live and recorded work. She also becomes a worldwide resident for Hed Kandi. Alongside club dates, she maintains a busy jazz schedule and appears at venues and festivals, including headline performances with respected jazz players.

Recording and collaborations

Her work includes her album Off The Ground, which features her vocals and saxophone on material co-written with Wayne Pollock. She also sessions and features on other recording projects, including work with Guy Mannings’ band. In addition, she works regularly on BBC and ITV programme soundtrack theme songs and appears on television, including roles as a saxophonist.
