Iron & Wine and Calexico

Iron & Wine and Calexico is a collaboration between American musician Samuel Beam, who records as Iron & Wine, and the Tucson, Arizona band Calexico. The partnership brings together Beam’s folk and singer-songwriter approach with Calexico’s indie and alt-country background.

Releases and collaborations

The collaboration releases the EP In the Reins in 2005. It also contributes the track Dark Eyes to the soundtrack for I’m Not There in 2007, and later issues the full-length album Years to Burn in 2019.

Context

Both Iron & Wine and Calexico are established acts with long discographies of albums and EPs. Their collaboration sits within the broader alt-folk scene and combines Beam’s acoustic, singer-songwriter style with Calexico’s Arizona-rooted sound.
