Hypo is the recording name of Anthony Keyeux, a French electronic musician from Dreux, France, born in 1973. He works in rock and indie as well as electronic and experimental music, and is associated with indietronica.

Career

Hypo is introduced by the Brighton label Spymania with Kotva in 2001, then becomes closely associated with Active Suspension, where he releases four albums of unusual and original electronic pop. His music mixes ironic playfulness with seriousness, and moves between pop, new wave, mainstream forms and experimental approaches.

Style and approach

His work is based on sampling and recycling, while still keeping a strong pop direction. He often aims for compact, song-based pieces that work like potential pop singles, but combines them with experimental touches. His music also stays open to outside voices and collaboration.

Collaborators

Guest appearances in his work include dDamage, O.Lamm, Momus, Anne Laplantine and Sawako.
