Exlovers

Exlovers are an indie pop group from London, United Kingdom, active since 2008. They form in London after meeting through mutual friends, and their early material has a quiet, folk-leaning character before the group develops a broader sound built from indie influences.

Style and influences

Their music draws on early 1990s American and British indie, with references that include The Cure, Teenage Fanclub, My Bloody Valentine and Elliott Smith. They combine sombre lyrics with lo-fi guitars, evolving boy-girl harmonies and subtle instrumental discord. The group’s earlier songs include “The Ruins” and “S.O.F”, which were previously written by Peter.

Releases and radio support

Exlovers release limited-edition 7-inch singles including “Just a Silhouette” on Chess Club and the double A-side “Photobooth/Weightless” on Young & Lost Club. These tracks gain support from XFM, Radio 1 and 6Music.

Touring and production

After several UK tours with Golden Silvers, Emmy the Great and Pete and the Pirates, the group attract the attention of producer Stephen Street, known for his work with Blur, The Smiths and Pete Doherty. Street helps record their five-track EP You Forget So Easily, which is released through Chess Club Records. Exlovers also tour France on the InRocks tour with Peter Bjorn and John and co-headline a UK tour with Kurran and the Wolfnotes.
