Elsa Hewitt

Elsa Hewitt is a producer and songwriter from Brighton and London, born in 1990. She begins making and recording music at a young age and develops a practice centred on self-expression. She starts out as a guitarist and lyricist, performing both solo and in bands before moving into electronic music. Her work uses sampled vocals, self-made sounds and environmental recording, combining them into songs and textured pieces.

Her writing joins separate experiences through recurring feelings or moments of connection, and her music often focuses on inner processes and states of change. It is described through imagery of the intimate, healing and mysterious sides of making music, with an emphasis on the subtle details of everyday life.

Career

In 2016, Hewitt wins the Lynsey de Paul Prize and joins Gilles Peterson’s Future Bubblers. She releases seven albums on her own imprint, ERH. Two of these albums are later reissued on vinyl by Tompkins Square and Lobster Theremin. She also issues a single on Saffron Records, along with numerous remixes and several commissioned projects.
