Dude York

Dude York are a Seattle indie rock group. The band is a trio consisting of Peter Richards on guitar and vocals, Claire England on bass and vocals, and Andrew Hall on drums.

Style and sound

Their music combines glam-influenced swagger, arena rock riffing, power pop melody and heavy distortion, with forceful drums and a generally loud, rough-edged sound. Their songs often pair catchy hooks with anxious or frustrated themes, and the band’s records reflect a mix of emotional directness and sharply played guitar rock.

Sincerely

Sincerely includes songs such as “Black Jack”, “Paralyzed”, “Twin Moons”, “Something in The Way”, “Tonight”, “Love Is” and “Times Not on My Side”. The album opens with “Black Jack” and moves between fast, riff-driven tracks and more reflective material, including an acoustic closing song. It is shaped by themes of anxiety, mental health, friendship and facing difficulties directly.

England sings lead vocals on “Tonight” and “Love Is”, her first lead vocal performances on a Dude York record. The album is recorded after an initial home-recorded version is rejected for having an overly dry, boxed-in sound, and the band works with producer John Goodmanson and JR Slayer, also known as The Blood Brothers’ Cody Votolato, to capture the energy of their live performances.

Writing and themes

The band presents Sincerely as a record concerned with losing perspective and becoming inward-looking even when support is available. Richards and the rest of the group frame the songs as a response to pressure and uncertainty, with the album balancing frustration, melody and a defiant, energetic tone.
