Bobby Kimball is an American rock singer from Orange, United States, born in 1947. He is best known as a lead vocalist for Toto, and his work is associated with arena rock, hard rock, pop rock, rock and soft rock.

Career

Kimball joins Toto in 1977 after submitting a self-written audition song, “You Are the Flower,” which appears on the band’s debut album. He records the first four Toto studio albums, then leaves the group in 1984 during the sessions for Isolation, the follow-up to Toto IV.

After his exit from Toto, Kimball moves to Germany and pursues a solo career under producer Frank Farian, whose work also includes Far Corporation and the later lip-sync project Milli Vanilli. Kimball returns briefly to Toto in 1989 and 1990 to record songs for the compilation Past to Present 1977–1990. He later comes back to the band in 1999 and records Mindfields, contributing to a return to the group’s earlier vocal sound.

Other projects and later activity

His career is linked with several other groups, including Yoso, Far Corporation, West Coast All Stars, People and S.S. Fools. He also hosts a website where he offers vocal advice to aspiring singers.
