Bloodshot Dawn

Bloodshot Dawn is a death metal, melodic death metal, technical death metal and thrash metal group from Portsmouth, United Kingdom. The band forms in 2003 and remains active. Its line-up includes Josh McMorran on vocals and lead guitar, Benjamin Ellis on lead guitar and backing vocals, Janne Jaloma on drums, and Anthony Ridout on bass.

Early releases and line-up changes

After a series of line-up changes and extensive rehearsal, Josh McMorran and Anderson record and release the band’s first material as the two-track EP Coalition Of Terror. The release receives a positive response from local listeners and reviewers. Following this, the band recruits Anthony Ridout on bass and begins playing across the United Kingdom in support of the EP.

Festival appearance and development

Bloodshot Dawn wins the 2009 Metal To The Masses competition, which leads to a performance at Bloodstock Open Air Festival alongside acts including Carcass, Arch Enemy and Kreator. Benjamin Ellis joins on lead guitar in late 2009, completing the line-up that records the band’s next material.

EPs and debut album

The band records Slaves To The Lie in 2010 and releases it in February 2011. It is self-financed and distributed worldwide through major online outlets. Bloodshot Dawn promotes the release through UK dates with bands including Cerebral Bore, Desecration, Dead Beyond Buried, General Surgery, Vader and Krisiun, as well as additional underground touring, with management handled through Chaotic Tapestry Management.

In September 2011 the band records its debut full-length album at 16th Cellar Studios in Rome. The self-titled album finishes in December 2011 and is released in January 2012. The record is described as showing a more developed writing style, with a sound that is heavier, more melodic and more accessible, and with production by Stefano Morabito.

Later activity

Drummer Doug Anderson leaves in 2013 and Janne Jaloma replaces him. In 2014 the band funds the recording of its second album, Demons, through Kickstarter.
