Ambition

Ambition is an Arizona hip-hop act. The name is also used by several other projects in different styles, including a pre-debut boy group, a Norwegian metallic hardcore band, and an AOR project built around singer Thom Griffin.

One Ambition is a pre-debut boy group made up of Kyle, Ryu, Taeho, Rookie and Daehyun. It plans its first promotions in Japan through SHOWBOX, with an initial show scheduled for 28 April 2022, although its debut date is not stated.

Another Ambition is a metallic hardcore band from Skien, Norway. Three of its members previously play in the straight edge band Washington Disease. Its only releases are a demo tape and a split CD with Lash Out from Molde. Afterward, the members go on to play in Onward, Insurance Risk, Common Cause and other bands.

A separate AMBITION project begins taking shape in 2002, when Frontiers Records president Serafino Perugino approaches Joe Vana of MECCA to help bring singer Thom Griffin back into the spotlight. Griffin had earlier become known through TRILLION, especially for the album Clear Approach, and later appears on the MECCA album singing backing vocals. Vana and Griffin record “Waiting In My Dreams”, a remake of a hidden Mr. Mister song, which appears on the Rock the Bones Vol. 1 compilation from Frontiers in 2003 and later as a bonus track on the finished release. Vana then leaves the project for personal reasons, leaving Griffin without a producer or songwriting partner.

Perugino keeps the project going and brings in producer Fabrizio Grossi, who works with artists including Glenn Hughes, Starbreaker and Vertigo. Further songs come from Joey Carbone, Christian Wolff and Brian LaBlanc, with Wolff also later working with Terje Eide of On The Rise, and LaBlanc later signing with Blanc Faces with his brother Robbie. Recording resumes at the end of 2004, and the project is shaped with the help of Swedish guitarist Tommy Denander, whose playing is chosen to suit the AOR sound associated with Toto’s Isolation and The Seventh One.
