DJ Yoda

DJ Yoda is a London-born hip hop turntablist and DJ. Born Duncan Beiny in 1977, he studies English and American Literature at the University of Warwick between 1995 and 1998. While at university, he begins performing at Mojo, a Warwick hip hop and soul night, before starting to release underground demo mixtapes to small record shops after graduation.

His tapes lead Antidote Records to commission an official mixtape, and How to Cut & Paste Mix Tape Vol. 1 follows. He releases a series of mixtapes and also performs internationally with artists including Goldie and the Scratch Perverts.

DJ Yoda wins the DMC DJ of the Year award in the Scratch DJ category in 2001 and is one of six nominees for best UK hip-hop DJ at the UK Hip-Hop Awards. He is also nominated by Q magazine as one of the “Ten DJs To See Before You Die”.

Alongside his own releases, he provides scratches on Danger Mouse & Jemini’s Ghetto Pop Life. He also writes on hip hop for Sleaze Nation, The Face, IDJ and Hip Hop Connection, where he contributes the DJ page. He is a resident DJ at the London club nights Spread Love, Step Up Front and The Xfm All City Night, and serves as one of the judges for the DMC DJ World Finals.
