The Modern Era festival takes place at the New Cross Inn (323 New Cross Road, SE14 6AS) in southeast London. The venue is very easy to reach by train and tube: New Cross Gate station (on the London Overground) is about a 2-minute walk away, and New Cross station (served by Southeastern trains) is around a 5-minute walk from the venue. Both stations are in Travelcard Zone 2 and link directly to central London. For example, trains from London Bridge reach New Cross in roughly 10 minutes, and Overground trains from Clapham Junction or Dalston Kingsland stop at New Cross Gate frequently. For late-night travel, note that London Overground runs overnight service on Fridays and Saturdays through New Cross Gate. Visitors should use Oyster cards or contactless payments on all trains and buses for the simplest travel and best fares.
Several London bus routes stop just steps from the venue (for example, Route 21 runs to Elephant & Castle, and buses 171, 172, 177, and 453 serve Deptford, Lewisham and other nearby areas). Street parking around the New Cross area is extremely limited and often hard to find, so it's usually easier to rely on public transport. Taxis and ride-share vehicles can drop off passengers on Clifton Rise directly outside the New Cross Inn. The venue also maintains a dedicated Blue Badge parking bay on Clifton Rise for disabled visitors. Keep in mind that New Cross is within London's Congestion Charge zone, so driving through central London may add extra fees.
For those arriving from outside London, the city is served by multiple airports and major train stations. London City Airport is the closest (about 30 minutes away by DLR and Overground) and connects directly to New Cross via Canning Town and the Overground. Heathrow and Gatwick offer fast train links into central London (for example, the Heathrow Express to Paddington or the Gatwick Express to Victoria), from where you can transfer to a local train or tube toward New Cross. Stansted or Luton arrivals can use the airport express trains to Liverpool Street or St Pancras, respectively, then continue by Tube or Overground. The closest major rail terminus is London Bridge station, with direct trains on to New Cross. For accommodation, the New Cross Inn building even has a hostel on site; otherwise, visitors often stay in neighboring areas like Greenwich, Deptford, or near London Bridge, which all have a variety of hotels and guesthouses just a short train ride away. April is a busy travel month in the UK, so it’s wise to book lodging early.
