Lady Leshurr is a rapper from Kingshurst in the United Kingdom, born in 1988. She is known for the Queen’s Speech series of freestyles, which go viral in 2015. The series includes Queen’s Speech 4, which receives strong praise from Spin and gets UK airplay and international attention.

Early life and background

She is born Melesha Katrina O’Garro and receives the BEM honour. Her parents come from the Caribbean island of St. Kitts. She grows up around music, with reggae playing at home, including artists such as Sister Nancy and Bob Marley. She says her family are rappers and singers, and that she starts making her own raps and songs from a young age.

Career

Her first creative work is poetry and writing at the age of six, and she releases her first mixtape at fourteen. By 2015, she has issued nine mixtapes. Her Queen’s Speech freestyles become the work for which she is best known, with Queen’s Speech 4 singled out as a major track in her catalogue.
