Fink
Fink is the recording and performance name of Fin Greenall, a British singer-songwriter from St Ives who is based in Brighton. He is associated with acoustic folk, blues, dub, indie folk, indie rock and electronic music, and is signed to Ninja Tune and Aus Music.
Career
Before becoming known as a singer-songwriter, Greenall works as a Ninja Tune DJ, playing trip-hop and breakbeat internationally. As Fink, he records and performs as an understated vocalist and guitarist with live support from Guy Whittaker on bass and Tim Thornton on drums.
He forms part of Brighton’s independent music scene and grows up in the same city as Roni Size, Portishead and Massive Attack. He also writes with other artists, including John Legend and Amy Winehouse, and remixes work by Elbow, Nina Simone, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Robert Belfour.
Releases
Fink’s debut album Biscuits For Breakfast is recorded entirely in his Brighton loft and is released in 2006. It is followed by Distance And Time in 2007, then Sort of Revolution in 2009. Earlier releases include Fink Funk, Front Side, Ever Since I Was A Kid, Fresh Produce, Pretty Little Thing and So Long, along with the singles Sort of Revolution and See It All.
Collaborations and live work
Greenall’s work reaches a wider audience through collaborations with John Legend. He co-writes “Green Light”, which features Andre 3000, and “Set Me Free” from Legend’s Evolver album. Legend also appears on piano and co-writes two tracks on Sort Of A Revolution.
Fink and his band play more than 300 shows over a three-year period, including support slots for Zero 7 and Massive Attack. Greenall also appears as a special guest at the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms, at Carnegie Hall in New York, and at Milan’s San Siro Stadium.
Other note
There is also a separate Hamburg alt-country band called Fink, active from the mid-1990s until 2007, as well as other unrelated artists using the same name.
