Eminem

Eminem is the stage name of Marshall Bruce Mathers III, a US rapper from St. Joseph, United States, born in 1972. He works as a rapper, songwriter, record producer and record executive, and his music is associated with boom bap, conscious hip hop, hardcore hip hop, hip hop, horrorcore and pop rap.

Career

He begins releasing music with the album Infinite and the extended play Slim Shady EP, before signing with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment. He reaches mainstream success with The Slim Shady LP, followed by major commercial releases including The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show. After Encore, he takes a hiatus and later returns with Relapse and Recovery. Later studio albums include The Marshall Mathers LP 2, Revival, Kamikaze, Music to Be Murdered By and The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).

Groups and collaborations

He is a member of New Jacks, Soul Intent, Outsidaz, D12, Bad Meets Evil and the Beats by Dre Band. Bad Meets Evil is his duo with Royce da 5'9". He also co-founds Shady Records, which signs artists including D12, 50 Cent and Obie Trice, and his label work also includes Shroom Shady Music and Aftermath Entertainment.

Film, awards and recognition

In 2002 he appears in the film 8 Mile as a fictionalised version of himself. The song "Lose Yourself" from its soundtrack becomes a major hit and wins the Academy Award for Best Original Song, making him the first hip-hop artist to receive that award. He receives 15 Grammy Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, 17 Billboard Music Awards and 15 MTV Video Music Awards, and is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. Billboard names him Artist of the 2000s.

Commercial impact

Eminem is one of the best-selling music artists of all time and the best-selling rapper, with worldwide sales estimated at more than 220 million records. He has five number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and becomes the first act to have ten consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200. His albums also receive multiple diamond certifications in the United States.

Other work

He establishes the Sirius XM Radio channel Shade 45 and opens the restaurant Mom's Spaghetti.
