Brecon Jazz Returns to Its Community Roots!

Stakeholders and supporters of Brecon Jazz Festival have announced that a more intimate event - Brecon Jazz Weekend 2016

Brecon Guildhall Theatre, Castle Hotel, Brecon Cathedral, The Muse and Theatr Brycheiniog, will present over twenty concerts over the weekend. From headlines, and intimate sessions to big bands - from a young musicians' showcase to late-night jam sessions - the programme promises something for all tastes of jazz lovers.

On Friday, the festival commences with an exhibition opening at the Guildhall, and a reception at the Theatr, and later in the evening the launch of the concert programme with a Big Band guest vocals and lindy hop dancers, at the Castle Hotel promoted by Brecon Jazz Club.

Saturday will see day one of a Young Musicians' Showcase and street theatre on the canal side at Theatr Brycheiniog, with workshops and more street entertainment plus headline concerts at Brecon Cathedral, the Guildhall and the Theatre. Sunday highlights include the morning jazz service, the climax of the Young Musicians' Showcase and headline concerts at the Cathedral and Guildhall.

There will be street entertainment and activities in Bethel Square, a 'Food Feast' next to the Wellington Monument and Brecon Farmers' Market at the Market Hall. In addition, the Brecon Fringe venues will ensure there is music for every taste in many different locations across the town.

A working group comprising representatives from Brecon Jazz Club, Friends of Brecon Jazz & Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon Chamber of Trade, Brecon Cathedral, Brecon Guildhall, LASTMARK Promotions, Brecon Town Council and Brecon Fringe representatives has established a partnership model to deliver music event of quality and vibrancy this year.

A spokesperson said:

 "Some elements of the programme are still reliant on the outcome of funding applications, but the Working Group will be in a position to make further programme announcements very, very soon". WG 3rd June 2016.
