SHOW OF SOLIDARITY: THE WORLD STANDS TOGETHER WITH ARIANA GRANDE AND FRIENDS AT “ONE LOVE MANCHESTER” BENEFIT CONCERT

We stand together tonight with Manchester. Millions of viewers around the world tuned in to the One Love Manchester benefit concert at Emirates Old Trafford headed up by Ariana Grande and friends in honour of victims and families who were tragically affected by the Manchester attack.

The concert, which sold out within minutes, was attended by 50,000 people who saw the biggest music acts on the planet rally together in less than one week to put together a spectacular live show. Tonight’s performances were nothing short of a blazing show of solidarity in the face of recent attacks dominating the news.

Massive cheers greeted Mancunian pop supremes Take That as they got the crowd going with ‘Shine’, immediately moving everyone to sing along and wave their arms. The trio performed a trinity of hits before bringing on stage Robbie Williams who updated the lyrics of his song ‘Strong’ with an anthemic chant of “Manchester – we’re strong! We’re strong”. The night was not without its emotional moments, particularly when Ariana joined the Parrs Wood High School Choir for a moving performance of her single ‘My Everything’.

Elsewhere, there were surprising unions on stage with Ariana joining Black Eyed Peas for an especially poignant rendition of the band’s hit ‘Where Is The Love’ and Pharrell pulling in Miley Cyrus to help uplift the audience with his feel-good hit ‘Happy’. Ariana also performed a special cover of Oasis’ ‘Don’t Look Back With Anger’ with Chris Martin. After much speculation during the week, Liam Gallagher made a surprise appearance on stage to perform at the benefit concert.

The entire cast of One Love Manchester came on stage for the finale to join Ariana in performing ‘One Last Time’, which she re-released this week as a charity single in aid of the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.

One Love Manchester Executive Producer Scooter Braun said during the show: “Manchester, your bravery is our hope. Because of you, we can now represent through this as a worldwide community, that we will be ready, we will be fearless and we will be great.”

All net ticket proceeds go directly to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund, which was set up by the Manchester City Council in partnership with the British Red Cross, in aid of grieving families and victims of the horrific attack. Ticketmaster had offered 14,000 free tickets to fans who were at Ariana Grande’s Manchester show.

The British Red Cross confirmed that over £10 million have been raised for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund so far – £2 million alone were raised in 3 hours of the benefit concert through text and online donations.

One Love Manchester was streamed live online and broadcast on television to over 50 countries across five continents. Millions are expected to have tuned in around the world through several online platforms including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Apple, MTV, Bell Media (Canada), Rogers (Canada), iHeart Media, ABC, BBC and TMC France.

The concert was broadcast live on BBC One, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 5 live, BBC World Service and BBC Radio Manchester, and Global Radio throughout the United Kingdom as well. The BBC were the host broadcaster for international television networks, airing in over 50 countries across five continents – including United States, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, the Caribbean Islands, Australia, New Zealand and many others.
