York Blues Festival 2026

York Blues Festival returns for 2026 on Saturday, April 18, at York Racecourse, Tadcaster Road, York, North Yorkshire. This one-day blues celebration takes place in the heart of the historic city, offering a vibrant spring event for music fans and families.

Music

Enjoy a diverse lineup of top blues performers, ranging from gritty Delta blues to electrifying blues-rock. The festival features bands and solo artists playing classic Chicago-style shuffles, smooth guitar solos, and heartfelt vocals. Emerging talents and surprise guests add extra excitement throughout the day.

Atmosphere

The festival creates a welcoming, inclusive environment where visitors of all ages come together. Families can relax on the grassy lawns, children dance freely, and music lovers join impromptu jam sessions. The friendly spirit and sense of community are highlights that bring people back every year.

Food & Drink

A lively street market runs between sets, offering a selection of local food and regional craft beers. Vendors serve gourmet burgers, shawarma, and refreshing craft sodas, while artisans sell handmade jewellery and blues-themed souvenirs.

York is easily accessible by rail, road, and air. York Railway Station sits on the main East Coast line, with frequent direct trains from London, Edinburgh, Manchester, and Leeds. On the day of the festival, special shuttle buses often run between the station and the Racecourse, which is about a 15-minute walk away. Local taxis and city buses also connect the station to stops near the venue, making for a straightforward journey.

If you prefer to drive, York lies at the junction of several major roads. From London (and the south) take the A1(M) to reach York, and from the west use the M62/A1 or M1/A1. Then follow signs for the A64 into York city center. The racecourse (postcode YO23 1EX) has its own parking area, but spaces can fill up on busy days - car-sharing or early arrival is recommended. York also operates park-and-ride sites on the outskirts, with buses running into the city throughout the day.

For air travel, the nearest airport is Leeds Bradford (about 45 minutes by car), offering a range of domestic and international flights. Manchester Airport is another good option (roughly 90 minutes by car), with trains via Leeds connecting to York. International visitors might fly into London Heathrow or Gatwick and then take a fast train (LNER) from London King's Cross to York in about 2 to 2.5 hours. Once you arrive in York, it is easy to hop on a city bus or taxi to reach the festival.

York has a wide range of accommodations to suit any budget. City-center hotels (such as Hilton York, DoubleTree by Hilton, Park Inn by Radisson, and Travelodge) are within about a 15 to 20 minute walk from the Racecourse and well-connected by public transport. You can also find charming guesthouses and B&Bs in York's historic areas. It is wise to book early during festival weekends, as hotels and inns fill up fast. Staying near the city walls or riverside allows you to enjoy York's attractions and still be close to the festival venue.
