Hardwick Festival 2026

Hardwick Festival returns from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd August 2026 at the historic Hardwick Hall grounds in Sedgefield, County Durham. Set in scenic parkland, this three-day event combines music, culture, and family-friendly activities in a unique outdoor setting.

Music

Experience a diverse music lineup across multiple stages featuring rock, pop, house, electronic, soul, funk and disco. The festival showcases international headliners, local bands, and emerging North East artists, with sounds ranging from anthemic choruses to cutting-edge DJ sets.

Family Activities

Hardwick Festival offers a dedicated family camping area and a packed programme of workshops and performances for children and teens. Highlights include dance classes like capoeira and tap-dancing, a family rave session, fancy dress competitions, and a busy kids’ zone.

Food & Drink

Enjoy a wide choice of food stalls serving burgers, Asian street food, Caribbean jerk, vegan options and more. Local craft beer, cocktails and coffee are available from market-style bars, complemented by artisan craft stalls and pop-up shops in the festival village.

Atmosphere

The festival is set in historic Hardwick Park, a national heritage site with lakes, woodland and gardens. Visitors can relax in the wellness area offering yoga and sound baths, while evenings feature campfires, late-night DJs and fireworks, all within a welcoming, inclusive community vibe.

Sedgefield is conveniently located just off the A1(M) motorway (take Junction 60) and is about a 20-minute drive from nearby towns like Durham, Darlington and Stockton-on-Tees. The route is well signposted for Sedgefield and Hardwick Park. On-site parking is usually available for visitors (often included with tickets or offered as a paid option - check the festival's website for details). From Newcastle city centre it’s roughly 40 minutes northbound via the A1, while drivers from Manchester or Leeds should allow around 2-2.5 hours, depending on traffic.

For public transport, the nearest mainline train stations are Durham and Darlington (each about 20 minutes by car from Sedgefield). From Durham you can catch the Arriva X12 (or X22) bus to Sedgefield Racecourse; that stop is a short walk from Hardwick Hall and the festival grounds. There is no train station in Sedgefield itself, so most visitors arriving by train transfer via these hubs on by bus or taxi. During festival weekends, there may also be coach services running from larger cities like Newcastle, Sunderland or Middlesbrough with drop-offs near the site.

In terms of air travel, Teesside International Airport (Durham Tees Valley) is only about 11 miles away (around a 20-minute drive). Newcastle International Airport (about 35 miles north) is a larger hub with many flights, though reaching it requires a longer drive. Both airports offer car hire and taxis. Manchester and Leeds/Bradford airports are much farther (roughly 2-3 hours by car), but they connect by train to Durham or Darlington for onward travel to Sedgefield.

Accommodation is plentiful in and around Sedgefield. The on-site Hardwick Hall Hotel offers comfortable rooms in a historic setting just a short walk from the festival stages. Nearby Sedgefield village has a few inns and B&Bs, and towns like Durham, Darlington and Stockton-on-Tees (20-30 minutes away) have more hotels, apartments and guesthouses. Many festivalgoers also choose camping: the Sedgefield Racecourse often provides tent and caravan pitches with basic facilities during event weekends. Wherever you stay, it’s wise to book early since places fill up quickly on a summer weekend.
