Atmosphere

Glastonbury is known for its friendly, inclusive vibe, with attendees camping on the farmland and enjoying a creative, community spirit that embraces respect for the countryside and local traditions.

By road, Pilton (Somerset, BA4 4AZ) is accessible via the M5 and A303. From London and points east, take the M4 to the M5 and then follow local roads toward Bath and Shepton Mallet. From the southwest, the A303 leads directly into Somerset’s countryside. Traffic can be very heavy around festival dates, so plan to arrive early or later in the evening if possible. Follow official signposts to the car parks or drop-off points. The festival also provides a 24-hour Drop and Collect service on the A371 near Evercreech (between Shepton Mallet and Wincanton), with shuttle buses to the site.

For public transport, the closest railway station is Castle Cary (about 9 miles from the site). Great Western Railway trains arrive here from London, Bristol and beyond. During festival weeks there are often extra services, and from Castle Cary a shuttle bus takes passengers directly to the festival. Local buses also connect nearby towns like Bath, Wells and Shepton Mallet to the festival area. Coach services (including National Express) run direct routes from many UK cities to the festival bus station. These fill up fast, so book tickets early.

The nearest major airport is Bristol Airport (around 50 miles north of Pilton), offering domestic and international flights. From there, travelers can take a train into Bath or Bristol and continue toward the festival region by rail or road. London airports (Heathrow, Gatwick) are roughly 2-3 hours away by car or train; for example, you could take a train from London to Bath or Castle Cary and then a short taxi or bus ride. Remember that Glastonbury is primarily a camping event - most attendees bring tents or campervans and stay on-site. If you prefer a hotel or B&B, consider nearby towns such as Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, Wells or Bath. These accommodations fill up quickly during festival season, so book well in advance.
