Atmosphere & Setting

Set in the landscaped gardens of Cholmondeley Castle, the festival features on-site camping and communal campfires. Roaming street performers and evening fire shows add to the magical atmosphere.

Cholmondeley Castle (SY14 8AH) is easily reached by road. The venue is well-signposted off the A49, just south of Chester and north of Tattenhall, and only a few minutes from the A41. Using a satnav or map app, simply enter 'Deva Fest' or the postcode SY14 8AH to navigate directly to the festival entrance. On-site parking is available for campers and day visitors (with a small fee), but local roads can get busy; many travelers find that arriving early or car-sharing makes the journey smoother.

Several public transport options connect to the festival. The nearest mainline train stations are Chester (about 13 miles north) and Crewe (around 20 miles east), both with direct trains from cities like Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and London. From either station, attendees can take a taxi to the festival site, or in past years the festival has offered shuttle buses from Chester, Crewe, Wrexham and other nearby towns. Schedules vary by year, so check the official event website for shuttle or coach service announcements before you travel.

If you're flying in, the closest major airport is Manchester (about a 1-1.5 hour drive). Liverpool John Lennon Airport is also roughly an hour's drive away. Both have frequent domestic and international flights, and travelers can rent cars or take trains (via Manchester or Liverpool) to Crewe or Chester, then finish the trip by taxi or a festival transfer. Even London airports (Heathrow/Gatwick) connect by train: from London, take a northbound train to Crewe or Chester (about 2-3 hours) and continue as above.

Accommodation around SY14 8AH ranges from on-site camping to local inns. Many festival guests stay on the grounds: the event runs large camping fields (tents or campervans) and often sells limited glamping packages. If you prefer not to camp, nearby Malpas and Tattenhall have charming B&Bs and country pubs with rooms. The historic city of Chester (20-30 minutes by car) offers a wide range of hotels and guesthouses. In all cases, it’s wise to book early - Cheshire is busy in summer and local rooms can fill up quickly for popular events.
