The Mischa Macpherson Trio
The Mischa Macpherson Trio is a group from Scotland centred on singer, Gaelic native and clarsach player Mischa Macpherson, who is joined by Conal McDonagh on Scottish border pipes and whistles and guitarist Innes White. Macpherson comes from Lewis in the Outer Hebrides and grows up immersed in the culture, music, language and landscape of the Western Isles, which shape the music she performs.
Background
Macpherson begins making music at an early age and presents songs influenced by her Hebridean upbringing. The trio performs traditional-influenced material with a line-up that combines voice, clarsach, pipes, whistles and guitar.
Performances and recognition
The trio’s music reaches audiences across the UK and abroad through tours in Australia, Canada, Germany and Romania, as well as appearances at leading UK folk festivals. In 2014, a live session on BBC Radio 2 and a performance on the main stage at Fairport’s Cropredy Convention bring wider attention to Macpherson’s work, with the latter performance played to an audience of 20,000 and receiving strong reviews. Her singing is described as having clarity and tenderness and as drawing on the influences of the Western Isles.
