Pete and the Pirates

Pete and the Pirates are an indie rock band from Reading, England. Formed in 2005, they work with a line-up of Tommy Sanders on vocals, Peter Cattermoul on bass and vocals, David Thorpe on guitar, Jonny Sanders on drums, and Peter Hefferan on guitar and vocals.

Style and songwriting

The band’s music combines indie rock with elements of punk and pop. Their songs are described through contrasts of sweetness, roughness, joy, melancholy, energy and tenderness, and their writing is positioned between the lo-fi clarity associated with Tall Dwarfs and the reflective side of Neil Young’s On the Beach.

Recordings

Their debut album, Little Death, is produced by Gareth Parton, whose credits include The Killers, The Go! Team, The Futureheads and Neil’s Children. It is released in January 2007. In 2007 the band also releases the singles “Come On Feet” and “Knots” on Stolen Recordings. Further singles follow, including “Mr. Understanding” in 2008 and a double A-side pairing of “Jennifer” and “Blood Gets Thin” at the beginning of 2009.

Their second album, One Thousand Pictures, is released in 2011. Their releases are issued through Stolen Recordings.
