God Damn
God Damn are a British heavy metal band from the United Kingdom, active since 2010 and signed to One Little Indian Records. The group consists of Dave Copson and Thom Egerton.
History
The band starts out in and around Wolverhampton as a three-piece with Thom Edward on guitar and vocals, Dave Copson on guitar, and Ash Weaver on drums. It later becomes a stripped-down duo after Copson suffers a breakdown on tour in 2013 that leads to life-threatening injuries and he does not return to the group. With prior commitments to fulfil, Ash and Thom continue as a two-piece.
After a series of singles and extensive touring, the band signs to One Little Indian and records its debut album, Vultures. Their live work includes dates with Slaves, Funeral For A Friend, Eagulls, The Wytches, Hawk Eyes and Turbowolf.
Sound and influences
God Damn play a mix of grunge, heavy metal and rock. Their style is associated with loud, abrasive guitar work, aggressive vocals and forceful drumming, while the album Vultures also includes more melodic and varied material. The band cites The Jesus Lizard, The Pixies, early Nirvana, Portishead, Tom Waits, The Mars Volta and Neutral Milk Hotel among its influences, and also references artists such as Cash, Hendrix, Page, Bonham and Homme.
Recordings
Vultures includes tracks such as “Silver Spooned”, “We Don’t Like You” and the nine-minute “Skeletons”.
